Years of the Rideau Canal
1826
- 2001
In the early spring of 1826, Lt. Col. John By of the Royal Engineers, began work on what is now known as the Historic Rideau Canal. Six years and many lost lives from malaria and accidents, the Canal was completed. It was first built as a military supply route, but now serves as a recreational waterway. In celebration of this amazing achievement, VB3RC, was operational from June 29th until July 2, 2001. |
