Paul Harris was a lawyer from Chicago, Illinois, who in 1905 started the Rotary Club. He was looking for a community based helpfulness that he was used to when he was young. Paul was the head of the Chicago Rotary Club which started soon after the first meeting.

Paul Harris died in Chicago in January, 1947. More than 1 million dollars American was donated to the Rotary foundation through the "Paul Harris Memorial Fund."
