Parents and youth can now go to the website and download the Parent-Youth Safe Driving Contract and Rear Window Sign after filling in a few fields for our statistical purposes. Further, parents and youth can choose to use both or either of the program components. As a result of these changes, the program is now not only available across the US and Canada, but is fully international. Feel free to go to the website and give it a try. www.ipromiseprogram.com Our (WHO) goal with respect to teen driver safety is to reduce the risk of teen driver car crashes, injuries and deaths. |
When Sean Kells was killed in a work related accident, just days after he started, Mr. Paul Kells decided that health and safety especially in the workplace should be a top priority for all people.
The
Safe
Communities Foundation
has since become the forum in which this message
would be communicated. This non-profit organization, that is funded
by corporate sponsors, is in place to help communities form
committees that establish their own health and safety organization.
The main purpose is to promote a safe environment, be it at work, at
home or at play.
The Town of Smiths Falls staff was fundamental in instigating the formation of this committee in April of 1996. There are representatives from industry, small business, service clubs, municipal officials, police, ambulance and fire services, hospital, health unit, schools and various safety organizations.
On Monday July 15, 1996 the Council for the Town of Smiths Falls endorsed this committee with the following resolution:
|
"That this Council support the Safe Community Project and the establishment of a broad based Committee which is committed to work with all parts of the community to make the Town of Smiths Falls a safe and healthy place to live, work and play." |
Officially
launched in September 1997, the committee has a part-time
coordinator who can be reached at the Smiths Falls Town Hall.
