 and Stanley Tools

are proud to announce the Stanley Tools Safe Community Award to be presented to a deserving person, group or organization in the Smiths Falls area who have done work to promote, encourage or develop safety in the home, community or business.

Winner for 2004: Harry Bligh

L-R
Bill Dickson, Co-Chair of the Smiths Falls and District Safe Community Coalition, Lynn Hoppins and Dan Cunningham of Stanley Tools; Rudy Witlox, Plant Manager of Stanley Tools in Smiths Falls, Award Winner Harry Bligh and Safe Community Coordinator Chris Heffernan admire Harry's new tool Box!

Harry has contributed hundreds of hours to the community as a volunteer. He is not a professional in the field of safety but his contributions in support of local programs and initiatives to support safety is wide and varied. Harry has been, and continues to be, an important part of the Lanark County Brain Injury Association. As part of that group, he tirelessly promotes support to those with brain injury and promotes actions to prevent brain injury in the future. Harry was one of the founding members of the Smiths Falls FOCUS Community Coalition, a group dedicated to reducing the harm and injuries caused by alcohol and drug abuse.

He continues as a ready volunteer and supporter in many of its programs including Racing Against Drugs and Drug Awareness Week. Harry also appears, often with short notice to aid many other organizations that also promote safety and injury prevention. He provides his time, equipment, and considerable wealth of expertise on how to get tasks done efficiently and safely. Harry understand this issue of safety first hand, having sustained a brain injury as a result of a work accident several years ago. Although he is entitled to remain at home and receive a pension, he instead devotes time and energy to the above mentioned causes and several other initiatives.

Hank's Tire, Branch 95 The Royal Canadian Legion, and Carol Ann Courville (with the Smiths Falls and District Club for Youth) were also nominated and will receive recognition for their work.
